William KentridgeDescribe the artist's concept/subject matter:
Kentridge is best known for his films, in which he uses animation to depict his work. He constructs them by filming a drawing, making erasures and changes, and filming it again.
Describe the mediums used and how this effects the overall concept of the work:
He employs the use of charcoal and with limited sections of pastel coloring. He will draw something, film a few frames, and then erasing and drawing some more. He manages to achieve extreme depth through using this technique.
The drawings are later displayed along with the films as finished pieces of art.
Explain what interests you about this artist, how do you relate the artist's work to your own?:
His work deals a lot with movement, and as movement is something I am interested in portraying, I enjoy his work greatly. His use of animated films in combination with sketches and erasures I find to be very creative. I enjoy working with pastel, and therefor could relate to the medium he used. His subjects I find to be creative and his final pieces intriguing.
